Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. Pupil Premium funding is available to both mainstream and non-mainstream schools, such as special schools and pupil referral units. It is paid to schools according to the number of pupils who have been: registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years, or been in care for 6 months or longer

As a school we should always obtain the best value, to do this we must;

  • Challenge – How and why services are provided
  • Compare – Performance with similar schools and within the school
  • Consult – Appropriate stakeholders before major decisions made
  • Compete – Ensure goods and services are secured in the most effective and effective way

Pupil Premium 2013-2014

The school received £57,900 in its budget for children that are considered to be eligible for the ‘Pupil Premium’. Children who are allocated the Pupil Premium are children who have been entitled to free school meals at any point in the last six years and children who are designated as Looked After Children (LAC). Each eligible child (63) has been allocated £900 for this year 2013-2014, and this is set to increase to £1300 next year 2014-2015. The school is required to demonstrate that it has used this funding to directly support these children in their learning and wider school experience.

The school had its Section 5 OFSTED inspection on the 15-16 October 2014. The outcome for overall effectiveness was judged as ‘Requires Improvement’. As part of this report in the section entitled ‘What the school needs to do to improve further?’ a request for an External Review of the school’s use of the pupil premium (PP) was requested. A review was carried out in January 2015.

We subsequently carried out a Progress Review to see how effective our Pupil Premium Spending had been since January in September 2015.
